CHARACTERS

Qui-Gon Jinn –He is a Jedi knight who is the wise, smart and courageous master of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Qui-Gon Jinn can also be very persistent and determined because he strongly believes that Anakin should enter the Jedi council and does not want to take no for an answer. He dies in a combat with Darth Maul, the evil Sith Darth Maul in the palace of Naboo.      

Darth Maul-He is the apprentice of Darth Sidious. He is a pure evil and sinister warrior of darkness who plans to take revenge on the Jedi. For instance, he learns the Jedi arts just so he can fight all Jedi and kill them.  Darth Maul kills Qui- Gon Jinn with a double-edged lightsaber, but eventually gets killed himself by Qui -Gon Jinn’s apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi – He is Qui- Gon Jinn’s apprentice who kills Darth Maul. Obi- Wan is bold and headstrong because he fights Darth Maul without any doubt or fear when his master gets wounded.

Anakin Skywalker- he is a slave and a future Jedi. Anakin is supposed to bring balance to the living force. He is not a greedy person and helps others without expecting a reward. For example he races in the Boonta classic to help Qui-Gon Jinn get the money he needs to buy the parts he needs to fix the Nubian starship.

Queen Amidala -She is a fourteen year old queen who has to save her people from the Sith and the Trade Federation which is controlled by Darth Sidious. Queen Amidala is a kind and gentle person. She is also brave and has a strong heart. For example, When the Trade Federation commands her to surrender her people, she refuses, and putting her life in great risk of being killed!

Boss Nass –He is the leader of the GunGans. Boss Nass leads them into battle to help Queen Amidala. He is a coward because when the Trade Federation takes over they flee for cover in the GunGans swamp.

Artoo Detoo- A Astromech Droid. Artoo Detoo repairs the Nubian starship shield generator when the generator got hit. He saves the Queen Amidala of Naboo. He is a brave little droid! He keeps working steadily to repair the shield even when he is getting shot at.

Jar Jar-He is a GunGan. Jar Jar is the one who located and persuaded Boss Nass to help the queen fight the Trade Federation and get Naboo back. He is a loyal friend.

Darth Sidious-He is the leader of the Sith and the Trade Federation. Darth Sidious is the Master of Darth Maul and one who plans the attack on Queen Amidala. He is the one who stars the war against Queen Amidala. He is extremely evil, insane, and sinister and power hungry.   

SETTING

      The story first takes place in Naboo when the Jedi frees Queen Amidala and then it accidentally lands on Tatoonie, the dessert planet ruled by gamblers, outlaws,

Hutts and Bounty Hunters.  Then the setting ends up in Coruscant, the capital of the Galactic Republic.  Finally the actions return to Naboo.  All these locations are planets in different galaxies, Naboo is a planet full of water.  Tatoonie is a dry dessert planet and Coruscant is mostly made out of metal.

PLOT – SUMMARY

     The story first starts when the two Jedi, Qui- Gon and Obi Wan go to the palace of Naboo to bring peace to the people.  On the way, they accidentally help Jar Jar Binks out of trouble from the Gungan guards.  Jar Jar then leads them to the underwater city of Naboo from the Gungan Swamp.  When the Jedi arrive at the place they free Queen Amidala, her guards and advisors.  They then escape of the Nubian spacecraft to get to Coruscant but unfortunately the shield generators get it.  Luckily Artoo Detoo fixes it, but still the hyper drive generator is leaking.  They have to land in Tatoonie, a dry planet ruled by Hutts, junk dealers, outlaws and bounty hunters.  Qui Gon soon meets young Anakin Skywalker.  Anakin is a slave owned by Watto.  Qui Gon tries to free Anakin but Watto will not free him or provide the new hyperdrive generator because he does not except the Republic money-credits.  Qui Gon and Watto put a bet on pod racing.  If Anakin wins the race Qui Gon will get the parts he needs for the spaceship and the right to free Anakin.  If Anakin loses, Watto will get the Nubian starship!

     As a result, Anakin wins.  Qui Gon gets the parts he needs.  He tells Anakin’s mom that Anakin is set free, but Watto will not agree to free Anakin’s mother, Shmi.

     Before Qui Gon enters the cruiser he is faced off by the evil Sith Lord, Darth Maul. They have a brutal and sinister fight. Qui Gon prevails!  After the group reaches their destination, Queen Amidala asks the Senate to help her fight the Trade Federation, but Chancellor Valorum falls for the Trade Federation’s lie.  Meanwhile, the Jedi will not allow Anakin to become a Jedi.

     Finally, the GunGans of Naboo agree to help fight the Trade Federation.  Later, at the palace of Naboo, the battle starts.  The Queen Manages to capture the victory!  Anakin manages to destroy the Droid command ship and Obi Wan destroys Darth Maul.  Unfortunately, Qui Gon Jinn dies.

OPINION

     I think that I will rate this book three out of four because the book has too much violence and too many angry words.  The story also has too many settings and can get confusing if you don’t know the locations and read fast.  The book also doesn’t show or describe some of the important characters, for example, the viceroy. 

     I also think that the groups of different speices are not described clearly enough.  So I can't really get  a clear picture in my mind about what is going on in the story

     Overall, I think the plot is quite good as science fiction story.
